  40. Ignorantia facti excusat, Ignorantia juris non-excusat \u2013 Ignorance of fact is an excuse, but ignorance of the law is no excuse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  41. Ipso facto \u2013 By the mere fact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  42. In lieu of \u2013 Instead of, in place of.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  43. In personam \u2013 A proceeding in which relief is sought against a specific person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  44. In rem – A proceeding or other legal action directed towards a property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  45. In status quo \u2013 In the present state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  46. Inter alia \u2013 Among other things.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  47. Inter vivos \u2013 Between living people (especially of a gift as opposed to a legacy).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  48. Interest Reipublicae Ut Sit Finis Litium \u2013 It means it is in the interest of the state that there should be an end to litigation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  49. Jus in personam \u2013 Right against a specific person (or party).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  50. Jus in rem \u2013 Right against the world at large.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  51. Justitia nemini neganda est \u2013 Justice is to be denied to nobody.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  52. Lex Non Cogit Ad Impossibilia \u2013The law does not compel the impossible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  53. Lex non a rege est violanda \u2013 The law must not be violated even by the king.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  54. Locus Standi – The right to bring an action or to be heard in a court.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  55. Mala fide \u2013 In bad faith.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  56. Malum in se or Mala in se (plural) \u2013 Wrong or evil in itself, or crime that is considered wrong in and of itself.\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  57. Malum prohibitum \u2013 In a way, opposite of Malum in se. It means \u2018crimes are criminal not because they are inherently bad, but because the act is prohibited by the law of the state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  58. Mandamus \u2013 \u2018We command\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  59. Modus operandi \u2013 Way of working, or mode of operation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  60. Mutatis Mutandis \u2013 With the necessary changes having been made, with the respective differences having been considered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  61. Nemo bis punitur pro eodem delicto \u2013 Nobody can be twice punished for the same offence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  62. Nemo debet bis vexari pro una et eadem causa \u2013 It means no man shall be punished twice for the same offence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  63. Nemo debet esse judex in propria causa or Nemo judex in causa sua or Nemo judex in sua causa \u2013 Nobody can be the judge in his own case.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  64. Nemo moriturus praesumitur mentire \u2013 A man will not meet his maker (God) with a lie in his mouth, or, \u2018no man at the point of death is presumed to lie.\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  65. Novation \u2013 Transaction in which a new contract is agreed by all parties to replace an existing contract.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  66. Nullum crimen sine lege, nulla poena sine lege – There must be no punishment without law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  67. Particeps criminis \u2013 A participator in the actual crime\/partner in crime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  68. Per curiam (decision or opinion) \u2013 By the court.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  69. Per se \u2013 By itself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  70. Prima facie \u2013 At first sight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  71. Alimony – a legal obligation on a person to provide financial support to their spouse before or after marital separation or divorce.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
